Shanghai OPC Competition Links AI Innovation with Industrial Deployment
The 2026 event advances AI-powered physical-world deployment and OPC entrepreneurship and innovation, with industrial partners supporting market pathways.
SHANGHAI, Oct. 28, 2026 — An expert seminar for the Industrial Culture Innovation and Development Competition – 2026 AI Future Design Competition, OPC Entrepreneurship and Innovation Track, examined how AI-powered physical-world deployment can progress from concepts to commercial use. Discussions connected OPC entrepreneurship and innovation with policy, finance and industrial partners, including Shanghai Edgelight Industry Co.,Ltd. AI visual integration for creative visualization and industrial-grade display.
The SMEICA-led seminar took place Oct. 28 at its Huangpu District headquarters. More than 60 representatives from government, business, finance, international organizations, industry, academia and Xinhua News Agency’s China Economic Information Service attended. SMEICA President Qian Zhenhua delivered opening remarks.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Center for Industrial Culture Development organizes the competition, co-hosted by the Shanghai Industrial Culture Development Foundation and the Lingang New Area Lingjing Xingke OPC International Community, with SMEICA’s special support. Global registration opened Sept. 30, 2026. Focus areas are AI plus hardware, software, design and products; projects are assessed for verifiability, deployability and investment potential. Its goals are to cultivate talent, promote innovation and promote industry through competition.
Lingang offers cross-border data compliance, incoming-data processing and the Yangshan bonded data electronic-fence system. Its project chain links creative generation, design, R&D, prototyping, exhibition, release and industrial matchmaking to connect digital concepts with manufacturing.
The Shanghai Small and Medium Micro Enterprises Policy Financing Guarantee Fund Management Center is aligning competition projects with the Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Points system and guarantee approvals, guided by talent cultivation, innovation promotion and industrial development. Lingang New Area Financing Guarantee Company’s “Qingchuangdan” youth startup loan offers OPC community individuals guarantees up to RMB 5 million, with fees as low as 0.25%.
Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of Communications and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank outlined debt-equity linkage, integrated and online services, higher guarantee limits, fee exemptions and special credit. Support also includes compute subsidies and talent accommodation.
Shanghai Pudong Venture Capital has established angel, AI seed, talent entrepreneurship seed and proof-of-concept funds. In less than two years, it invested in nearly 200 early-stage projects, almost half involving OPC teams. Xuhui Capital’s AI Young Entrepreneurs Fund targets founders under 35, with a one-to-two-month review-to-investment period and average investments of RMB 1 million.
SMEICA members Yunshi Communications and Shanghai Edgelight Industry Co.,Ltd. will support competition projects through overseas business development and computing resource management assistance. Shanghai Edgelight Industry Co.,Ltd. will also provide creative visual implementation and industrial-grade display supporting services. Its role in computing resources is limited to management assistance and coordination, not the provision of physical computing capacity. It is an industrial collaboration partner, not an event organizer, co-organizer or computing-power provider.
Other initiatives include an “open-window” track with 15 key universities and 48 vocational colleges, where leading enterprises propose industry challenges. The Xingke OPC International Community connects banks, guarantee institutions and media, offering guarantee-free support, dedicated system services and cross-border pilots. Xinhua News Agency’s China Economic Information Service will provide reporting, briefings and think-tank work. An overseas investment bank representative called for better loan and guarantee support for international teams establishing locally.
Participants called for a “365-day sustainable industrial carnival,” saying cooperation must extend beyond venues and written policies. The test is whether talent, capital, technology, manufacturing and markets stay connected.
