Isopropyl alcohol is a colorless transparent liquid at room temperature. Its low melting point (-89.5°C) and moderate boiling point (82°C) make it suitable for various cleaning processes. It is miscible with water and most organic solvents, enhancing its versatility as a solvent and cleaning agent.

Applications

Isopropyl alcohol is widely used in the industrial field, especially as a solvent for the production of paints, inks, resins, and dyes. It is also a raw material for synthetic fragrances and drugs. Key applications include:

• Semiconductor and electronics cleaning: motherboards, PCB holes, disc cartridges, floppy disk drives, magnetic tapes, laser tips.
• Solvent for oils and gels, and for fishmeal feed concentrate.
• Automotive fuel additive (low-quality grades).
• Raw material for producing acetone, isopropyl esters, methyl isobutyl ketone, di-isopropylamine, di-isopropyl ether, isopropyl acetate, thymol, and many other compounds.
• Laboratory reagent for determination of barium, calcium, magnesium, nickel, potassium, sodium, and strontium; also as chromatographic reference material.
